Equipment

  • Short rocks glass
  • Mixing glass or sturdy pint glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Cocktail strainer
  • Two small saucers
  • Measuring jigger
  • Kitchen or cocktail torch, optional

Ingredients

For the Cocktail:

  • 1 1/2 ounces Howler Head Banana Bourbon
  • 3/4 ounce Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey
  • 2 dashes black walnut bitters or aromatic bitters
  • Ice for stirring
  • 1 large ice cube for serving

For the Rim:

  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon Meat Church Honey Bacon BBQ Rub plus more if needed

Optional Garnish:

  • 1 thin banana coin or dried banana chip
  • 1 small piece crisp cooked bacon

Instructions

  • Place the rocks glass in the freezer for several minutes while preparing the cocktail, if desired.
  • Pour the honey or maple syrup onto a small saucer.
  • Spread the Honey Bacon BBQ seasoning in a thin layer on a second saucer.
  • Lightly touch only one-half of the glass rim to the honey. Use the thinnest coating needed to make the seasoning stick.
  • Press the honey-coated half of the rim gently into the BBQ seasoning. Lift the glass and tap away any loose excess.
  • Place one large ice cube into the prepared glass.
  • Add the Howler Head Banana Bourbon, Skrewball Peanut Butter Whiskey, and bitters to a mixing glass.
  • Fill the mixing glass approximately two-thirds full with ice.
  • Stir continuously for 20 to 25 seconds, until the drink is thoroughly chilled and lightly diluted.
  • Strain the cocktail into the prepared rocks glass over the large ice cube.
  • For an optional brûléed banana garnish, place a thin banana coin on a heat-safe surface and lightly caramelize the top with a kitchen torch. Allow it to cool briefly.
  • Garnish with the banana coin or dried banana chip and one small piece of crisp bacon, if desired. Serve Immediately

Notes

This is an original SG&G development formula and should be taste-tested before publication.
The recommended starting ratio is two parts Howler Head to one part Skrewball. Skrewball has a strong flavor and can overpower the banana bourbon when used too heavily.
For a sweeter, more peanut-forward drink, increase the Skrewball to 1 ounce.
For a less sweet drink, reduce the Skrewball to 1/2 ounce or add 1/4 ounce straight bourbon.
Black walnut bitters reinforce the nutty flavor. Standard aromatic bitters are an easy substitute.
Use only a light half-rim of seasoning. A full or heavy rim can make the drink too salty.
Do not add the BBQ seasoning directly to the cocktail.
Maple syrup may replace honey as the rim binder.
A dried banana chip is easier than a brûléed banana and requires no torch.
The bacon garnish is optional because the BBQ seasoning already provides bacon-inspired flavor.
Skrewball contains flavoring derived from peanuts and may contain nut and sesame derivatives. Anyone with food-allergy concerns should check current manufacturer guidance and consult a medical professional before consuming it.
Serve only to adults of legal drinking age. Enjoy responsibly.
